Needing to get around Melbourne requires a car, but sometimes it's easier to switch to the public transport to avoid traffic congestion and extreme costs for parking in the city. So, we're getting from one place to another and decided that to get into the City from South Yarra would be best via the train. We look up and down some of the roads close to the station for a parking spot that would do the job and cost us nothing. Loads of 1 hour parking, 2 hour parking, but these were no good, we had a meeting around those parts, then off to the city for another, then dinner. It was half three and we needed parking to cover us until the evening. At six thirty the parking is done for the day and you can leave it until the morning - if need be. A few blocks away from the station we find a 4 hour park! Whoop, whoop! Just what we needed. We park up and dash to the city - already a little behind time. After our meeting and dinner we get back to the car to find a fine! WTF!? AUS$72! But we parked in a four hour spot, and that would take us past 6:30! Oh. In taking us past 6:30, unlike everywhere else in the world (and even in Melbourne), this place turns from public to permit holders only. Talk about upside down! No matter where you are in the world, parking attendants will get you. bastards.
